I’m Parker Douglas, a senior at The Walker School in Marietta, Georgia — born and raised in Cobb County. I’ve pretty much grown up around Atlanta, and it’s definitely home.

At school, I’m big on the Humanities — I’ve taken a bunch of APs in that area and I’m wrapping up my Humanities capstone, which will earn me a Humanities Distinction when I graduate (yay!).

I spend a lot of my time leading and getting involved. I’m captain of the Varsity cheer team for the second year, and I’m part of Peer Leadership, where seniors get to mentor freshmen. I also did Cobb Youth Leadership through the Cobb Chamber — it’s a program for students who want to grow as leaders and give back to the community. This year, I was invited back as a Senior Leader to help plan and run the sessions for the new group of juniors, which has been great!

One of the things I’m most proud of is starting a mentoring program called ECHO (which stands for Engage, Communicate, Help, Orient). It connects high schoolers with rising 6th graders who just finished The Walker School’s New Avenues dyslexia program. We meet at least once a month — sometimes more — just to make sure the younger students feel supported and confident as they transition to middle school.

Outside of that, I play Varsity lacrosse, I’m in Latin Club and Fellowship of Christian Students, and I’m part of Buddies Without Borders. I’ve also done training through UPenn’s Social Innovators and Entrepreneurial Leadership programs — basically anything that helps me learn, lead, and connect with people is my thing.
